Dr Anthony Maloof (Ophthalmologist)

MBBS (Hons), MBioMedE, FRACS, FRANZCO, FANZOPS

Dr Anthony Maloof is the resident consultant corneal and oculoplastic eye specialist in our eye centre. We are so privileged to have someone of his expertise practice in our rooms.

He specializes in advanced cornea and oculoplastic surgery. After receiving his medical training at the Prince of Wales Hospital, Dr Maloof obtained a Master’s in Biomedical Engineering at UNSW, and then became the last trainee of the late Professor Fred Hollows. Finishing specialty training, Dr Maloof spent 3 years in England obtaining advanced surgical skills in the traditionally separate fields of Cornea and Oculoplastic Surgery.

On return to Australia in 2000, Dr Maloof was appointed to run the surgical services in the Ophthalmic department at Westmead hospital where he transformed the training of registrars and the outpatient service to Western Sydney. From 2014, Dr Maloof continued training specialists at the Prince of Wales Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital and receives referrals from many of the current practicing specialists who he trained.

Dr Maloof has spent years accumulating experience and competence in his subspecialty fields, which he practices exclusively, and which give him an expanded surgical toolkit to offer specialized and customized surgical treatments.

A MEMORIUM

Born: 7th March 1964, Entered eternal life: 30th January 2022

Dr Con Moshegov was the consummate cataract and refractive ophthalmologist who earned profound respect from patients, colleagues, referrers, and staff who worked alongside him.

As our resident eye specialist, we are sad to inform you that Dr Moshegov passed away after a brief but debilitating battle with COVID.

He was born, raised, and educated in Sydney. On completion of his medical and specialist training in Australia, he undertook a corneal fellowship in England before commencing private practice back in his hometown.

He performed his first refractive laser procedure in London in 1994 as he gained widespread experience in complex cataract cases and the innovation that was back then, laser PRK. Even from his early days as head of department at Concord hospital, he stood out as being uniquely special.

A surgeon so talented, gifted, precise, along with outstanding judgement to enable successful outcomes in complex anterior segment disorders; he quickly rose to become one of the most sought-after eye surgeons in Sydney.

He was the most all-round gifted eye specialist Australia has ever produced and was driven to keep challenging the art and science of visual perfection. We were so privileged to have him consult in our rooms at the Omni Eye Centre.

Eye Surgeon

His ethical, moral, and social philosophies were uncompromising. He was always smiling, cheerful, and made those around him feel special under his care.

A true gentle giant but equally an irreplaceable world authority and key opinion leader in refractive ophthalmology.

May you rest in eternal peace Dr Moshegov. Deepest condolences to your family, friends, and many loved ones.

He is survived by his close and loving family; Natalie, his wife, and two children, daughter, Dr Sophia Moshegov and son, Julian Moshegov.

You will never, ever be forgotten!
